Polovtsian Dances from "Prince Igor."
A musical journey from Mombasa, up East Africa to Mt. Kilimanjaro and beyond.
[Liner]
Band Number 1 — "Port Pangani"
The opening Band depicts activity on the deck of a Coastal Steamer from Mombasa to the Port of Pangani in Tanganyika on the East Coast of Africa. Excitement runs high as the group engages in the final preparations for "Safari."
Band Number 2 — "Bantu Village"
The Safari heads inland by boat up the Ruvu River through steaming swamp lands to arrive at a Bantu Village. A Haunting quiet pervades the Jungle around the Village, until the drums sound and a dance is presented for the pleasure of the group.
Band Number 3 — "Mt. Kilimanjaro"
Leaving the village on our trek we come out into a clearing to view the majestic beauty of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the distance. From the purple expanse rising from the plains to its snow covered peaks obscured by white clouds, Mt. Kilimanjaro is a breath taking panorama of grandeur.
Band Number 4 — "The Trek"
To the cadence of Bantu Drums, and chants, we resume the journey Westward to the dry plains and big game country. Spirits are high and our Native Hunters move forward with an air of anticipation.
Band Number 5 — "The Chase and Kill"
The Hunters have sighted a big fellow. Excitement builds to fever pitch in the tall grass as a cordon of Beaters close around the beast. Suddenly we are face to face with charging animal fury and then — "The Kill!"
Band Number 6 — "The Trek Back"
As the Beaters gather the kill and make ready to return to reminisce the most memorable and exciting experience of our lives. This has been "SAFARI."
