Its subject is the Biblical story of Doubting Thomas, who refused to believe in the Resurrection until he was convinced by touching the wound in Christ's side. Christ in this version is wearing the Byzantine nimbus, or halo. The figure of Thomas, whose head has been lost, is kneeling at the left.
