Extract from sleeve notes:
"...All 17 pieces were first collected between 1950 and 1958 and are drawn from the collections of the following: Hélène Bernier, Dr. Dominique Gauthier, Luc Lacourcière, Roger Matton, Félix-Antoine Savard. The recordings themselves, however, were taken directly at the source with high-fidelity equipment by Roger Matton, composer and ethnomusicologist, who was abble to produce this album through the aid of a grant by the Canada Council of Arts to the Folklore Archives of Laval University."
"The album illustration is a partial reproduction of Desceliers' Planisphere drawn in 1550. The original is to be found in the British Museum."
