Parel

The Mauritshuis has asked Spinvis to write an ode based on masterpieces from the collection. During his visit to the Mauritshuis in October, Spinvis considered more than 15 paintings. Including the Girl with the Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer. Spinvis said about this painting: "It is obvious to write a song about it. But I also shrink a bit, because it is such a big and famous work". Yet he dared to make the choice. "Everything is actually an ode to death and time. And what's in between is a bit of love. That’s it". In his song "Parel", Spinvis responds to the riddles and fables surrounding the iconic work of Johannes Vermeer from 1665.
