Le Frit is a sound alchemist, conjuring sprawling worlds and stream-of-consciousness musical quests. On his debut for Human Pitch, we’re sent careening through the surrealist landscapes of m•emo•topia, an imagined archipelago with disassociated yet identifiable natural elements. Digital forests and amphibian rhythms dot the winding path in a kaleidoscope of influences ranging from video game soundtracks to music concrete. Bizarro baile vocal blips make an appearance by the EP’s conclusion, but the half-Brazilian, France-based soundbender makes music that can’t be placed anywhere in particular outside its own orbit. “I started to envision these narratives as small interdependent biomes where memory thrives in different ways,” says Le Frit. “I call them memotopes––a contraction of ‘biotope’ and ‘memory.’” Inspired by “sensitive mapping,” each track is a “pin” in the creator’s cartography of feeling.
