The album combines improvisation with hip-hop-informed sampling; the collaboration came together through Samarbeta, a residency programme produced by From the Other in Salford, UK. Written over two days in a studio at Islington Mill, recorded soon after in the New Adelphi Studios at the University of Salford, and debuted a live version at Fat Out Fest. Brooks took the recordings to Deadverse Studio, New Jersey, for mixing and adding lyrics for “Between the Word and the Drum,” “Asymmetric,” and “As Children Chant”.
