The rear pocket opening sleeve includes these notes: 'The first and only authentic recording of a shamefully neglected Gilbert and Sullivan masterpiece. Hampered by over-complex plot and dialogue that was not up to Gilbert's usual standard, the opera did not have the success it merits when first performed in 1896. Now all Savoy fans can get to know Sullivan's lovely score from this fine modern, professional stereo recording, made from a set of parts copied direct from the composer's autograph manuscript score. The recording has the distinction of including three 'lost' songs, heard here in their original orchestration for what must be the first time since the 1896 premiere.'
