Notatki wydania
Mahan Esfahani has made a brilliant recording of Piano Phase. His attention to detail makes the music absolutely sparkle. I am extremely impressed and moved by his performance. – Steve Reich Instruments Burkhard Zander, 2012, after a harpsichord by Joannes Daniel Dulcken, Antwerp 1745 Detmar Hungerberg, 2010, "false inner-outer" after Florentine models of the 17th century (Scarlatti) Daniel Kidane has taught me more than most that good music is, indeed, out of time and out of place. There was once a man named Bjarne Dahl. I'd go round to his restoration workshop in northern California back in university days, almost weekly, and he taught me how to be inspired. He once gave me a book and wrote on the first page: "To Mahan – never give up!" I wish he were still around to see that my life has been a tribute to his mentoring. Bjarne – et in Arcadia ego! – Mahan Esfahani Concerto Köln would like to thank the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia for their generous support in this project. Cover and Artist Photos © Bernhard Musil Printed in the EU The young Iranian harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani makes his Deutsche Grammophon debut with a typically adventurous mix of Baroque classics and Minimalist masterpieces, featuring his own multi-tracked arrangement of Steve Reich's seminal 1967 Piano Phase and Henryk Górecki's compact 1980 concerto, both recorded for the very first time on a period keyboard. "The harpsichord may never quite be mainstream material, but you sense that, if it were ever to get there, Esfahani might just be the man to make it happen."
