These performances were first released by Walden Records between 1952 and 1954 (Walden 300, 302 and 303). Since the original monaural tapes have been lost, mint unplayed copies of the original pressings were made available by Ira Gershwin, from his personal collection. Working from multiple copies of each disc, the quietest pressing of each song was taped, utilizing improved modern equalization. The selections on this new master represent the "best of" and rarest songs culled from the original three discs.
